Do you know your rights as a tenant? If a NO is the answer, then this article is especially for you!

  • RIGHT TO HABITABLE PREMISES

First of all, we should be aware that, as a tenant, you possess the entitlement rights to inhabit the rented premises and benefit from its amenities in accordance with the terms specified in the tenancy agreement.

  • RIGHT TO NOTICE TO QUIT BEFORE EVICTION

It is impermissible for a landlord to evict a tenant in an unlawful manner without adhering to the appropriate legal procedures and due process. A one-year or above leniency requires at least six months’ notice before eviction.

Reference Point: landlords in university areas throw students who owe money out of the house and lock the property in an illegal or unlawful manner without prior notice.

  • THE RIGHT TO THE ISSUANCE OF PAYMENT RECEIPT

After payment of the rent by the tenant to the landlord, it is expected from the landlord that a receipt of payment be issued to the tenant, dating from the start of the rent to the expiration date.

  • RIGHT TO A WRITTEN AGREEMENT

As a tenant, opt for a written agreement signed by the landlord and his legal team. It is important and can save you a whole lot of stress in the near future.

  • THE RIGHT TO ENJOY THE PROPERTY IN PEACE

After payment of rent and receipt issued, the tenant has the full right to peaceful enjoyment of the property paid for. The landlord owes the tenant for entrance usage and safety. The tenant, on the other hand, has the right to sue for trespass against any trespasser, stranger, landlord, and his agents. However, this doesn’t mean that the landlord no longer has the right to supervise and maintain his property generally, it must be with the consent of the tenant and within reasonable hours of the day.
